Challenge #16 - Shadows

For this week's challenge, I tried re-creating my own shadows...

It is a composite of three separate photos, along with three other layers - the horns, the halo and the texture.

I also tried it in Black and White, but the picture fell a little flat.

Additional credit to: www.duley.org/pub/Littlest%20Angel/?C=M;O=D for halo, Texture 24 by Superior Stock (deviant art), horns, unknown - no copyright infringement intended.

Challenge #13 - Shades of Red and Green

In the holiday spirit - this week's category was Shades of Red and Green. Here are the photos I decided on - it was a candle-holder on the table at my dad's house this past weekend.

Here are the runners up.

Challenge #12 - Tree's a Crowd

Or - You can't see the crowd for the trees...

It's not really an impressive shot, I know, but I like the idea of it - so that'll be my entry for this week. I'm hoping it's the 'shot that counts'.

Here's another take...

Challenge #11 - Hidden Text

This one is the final product. Scroll down to see the process from original photo to end product.

The initial photo was taken just prior to my final photo class this week. I got one of the girls from my class to (reluctantly) pose for it. Her facial expression is pretty darn good.

The first step was a crop to make the photo square, and a little touching up here and there. The binary code was redone, since I didn't have a lot of time to shoot and it was out of focus in the original. To do this, I had to mask the original with a separate layer and then add the new test over top of the mask.
The second step was to convert the photo to B&W (appropriate, since my class was all in B&W). However, part of what we learnt was not to just accept a print that was converted from colour to black and white, since a good B&W print is more than just removing the colour....

So to get from the print above to the final product, I burned in the darker areas to give it a little more depth. I thought about dodging on her face, but it never looked right.

That's it! Now for the challenge.... what does the secret message say???

Challenge #10 - High Tech - Photo Entry

The concept was inspired by Isle Bing's Self Portrait in Mirrors (1931), which can be seen here: http://collectionsonline.lacma.org/mwebcgi/mweb.exe?request=record;id=109753;type=101
